CODE RED: Those Without Power Down to 23%

Police remind people to stay away from downed wires and drive carefully for the safety of crews on the road.

Monroe police and Emergency Management issued a Code Red alert at just after 11 a.m. Those still without power in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene is down to 23%.

Residents are reminded:

Fire Marshal Bill Davin will allow open burning today to Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Permits are required, and can be obtained through the Fire Marshal's office.

The Garder Road Debris/Compost facility is open Saturday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for disposal of green residential yard debris. Normal procedures apply.

The Code Red alert also reminded townspeople without power that drinking water is available at the Monroe Senior Center on Cutlers Farm Road. Yeager said people must bring their own containers.

Non-potable water is available at the Stevenson Fire Station #2 on Route 111 and the Monroe Police Department. This water should be used for washing and flushing toilets, and not for drinking.

Showers are available for the public at Masuk High School and Wolfe Park from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and through the holiday weekend.  Showers are also available at the YMCA on Trefoil Drive in Trumbull until 9 tonight, according to the Code Red message.
