Con Artist Tries to Dupe Monroe Man Out of $1,150

A Williams Road resident told police he received a phone call at 11 a.m. on Sept. 9 from a man identifying himself as Investigator Watson of Privateer Services Union. In the voicemail, he claimed to have documents with the homeowner's ex-wife's Social Security number on it and said that she was to be served a summons charging her with a felony for defaulting on a $1,150 loan in July of 2011.

Police said the resident told them he has not had contact with his ex-wife for over 24 years. He followed up and called the number "Investigator Watson" had left to discuss the matter further.

Watson told him he was a co-signer, but the resident told him did not co-sign anything and asked to see the paperwork. Watson said it was not available because the transaction was done electronically, but if he wants documents to be produced he has to first pay a fine, according to the report.
