'Congratulations Linda. We're Going to Miss You'

Linda Suhr steps down from the Police Commission after 18 years.

Linda Suhr was first elected to the Monroe Police Commission in 1994 and she went on to serve for 18 years before attending her last meeting as a commissioner on Oct. 17, which First Selectman Steve Vavrek declared to be "Linda Suhr Day".

"It's kind of bittersweet why I'm here tonight," Vavrek said at last Wednesday's meeting before reading the proclamation.

As a past chairman of the commission, Vavrek said Suhr "led the drive to expand and modernize the police facility, select and hire highly-qualified candidates and support efforts to continually professionalize the police department."

The first selectman said Linda Suhr served the town with "distinction" and "honor" and called upon citizens to congratulate her for her years of service.

"You're one of the main reasons why I want to get the police project completed," Vavrek told Suhr.

Suhr replied, "I think it's important because the members of the department need much improved facilities when they go to work."

Current chairman, Ronald Villani, said, "Congratulations Linda. We're going to miss you."
