A Fairfield man was charged with breach of peace and interfering with a 911 call Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to smother his mother with a comforter, police said.

Randy Zingo, 38, of Philemon Street, reportedly told police that he had thrown a comforter over his mother to "shut her up," department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

According to Zingo's account, his mother, 66, had been out with a boyfriend for three days and had just returned home.

His mother, who was reportedly unsteady on her feet and out of breath, told officers that Zingo took the phone away from her as she tried to call 911, according to police.

Zingo was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared in court on Wednesday.

This is very unfortunate. I have known Randy for 35 years and he is a great person. Yes, he was a great athlete at Prep. Calling him a loser because he lives at home is judgmental and who knows if he had to based on other family issues or for personal reasons. Quick to judge someone you have never met. I wish him the best and hope he and his mom work things out.

Randy and his family are good people. I played Pop Warner with him, his brother, and his Dad was the coach. Judge yourself before you judge others!
