Crossing the Double Yellow Line Leads to a DUI

Police arrested a Derby man for drunken driving on Sunday.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

Police pulled over a '97 Ford Taurus at around 2:21 Sunday morning after an officer saw it cross over the double yellow line while heading south in the 500-block of Main Street, according to the report.

The driver, Joseph Miani, 64, of Mount Pleasant Street in Derby, had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, had trouble finding his registration and appeared slightly confused, police said, adding he told them he had a couple of drinks at Buffalo Bill's Steakhouse on Main Street in Monroe.

Field sobriety tests determined Miani was under the influence, leading to his arrest, police said. He was charged with DUI, driving with no insurance and failure to drive right and released on $500 bond for a Dec. 11 court date.
