Dead End Street Leads to a DUI Arrest for One Driver

A police officer followed a 2010 Ford F150 traveling erratically in the area of Fan Hill Road at around 7:33 p.m. on June 25, as the driver made a series of turns before going down a dead end street on Owl Hill Road, police said, adding the officer knew it was a dead end and waited for the vehicle to come back before signaling for the driver to stop.

The driver had the odor of alcoholic beverage on him and field tests determined he was under the influence, according to the report.

Jorge Leyva, 40, of Old Hawleyville Road in Newtown was charged with DUI, restricted turn and failure to use a signal. He was released on $1,000 bond for a July 2 court date.

Police said Leyva was flipping on his blinker as he made turns rather than using his turn signal beforehand. At headquarters, he refused to take a breath test, police added.
