DUI Arrest on Pepper Street, Update on the Country Pizza Crash

Police arrested a man for drunken driving on Sunday night, investigated an accident at Country Pizza on Saturday and a man turned himself in on a warrant.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

DUI on Pepper

A Naugatuck man was arrested for drunken driving at 7:58 Sunday night following a complaint of an erratic driver on Main Street — near the Newtown line. Monroe officers spotted the vehicle on Pepper Street and saw it touch the double yellow line twice, before pulling it over at Northbrook Condominiums, according to the report.

The driver, Alexander Saraguro, 31, of High Street was charged with DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating without a license. He was released on $200 bond for a July 31 court date.

Police said field sobriety tests determined Saraguro was under the influence, leading to his arrest. He allegedly refused to participate in breath tests at headquarters.

Country Pizza Crash Update

A 17-year-old Monroe woman was driving to Country Pizza in a Ford SUV with her father, 58, at 4:14 p.m. Saturday when she while trying to park. Police said she did not know what happened.

The young driver was issued an infraction for traveling too fast.

Warrant Arrest

A Pastors Walk man turned himself in on a warrant Friday night for allegedly spraying a garden hose at a dirt bike rider early this month as bikes were going up and down his street.

Police said it did not cause an accident or injure the biker. Nevertheless, Joseph Anthony Costello, 42, was charged with reckless endangerment, held on $10,000 court set bond and brought to court the next morning.
