Updated: Firefighters Extinguish House Fire on Sleepy Hollow Drive

Units made quick work of the Wednesday afternoon fire.

Stepney, Monroe and Stevenson volunteer firefighters responded to the report of an explosion in the basement of a home at 6 Sleepy Hollow Drive at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday and encountered heavy smoke and flames.

Three engines and a ladder truck responded to the emergency call and the basement fire was contained within 10 minutes of the firefighters' arrival. The rest of the home sustained smoke damage.

Fire Marshal William Davin estimates the total damage to be $40,000. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation by Davin's office.

Once the fire was extinguished, units remained on the scene to perform overhaul and ventilation until 5 p.m.
