Firefighters Save House from a Jeep Engulfed in Flames
A barking dog allows a family on Winthrop Place to evacuate their home safely.

Monroe firefighters responded to a Winthrop Place residence around 1:50 a.m. Saturday for a car fire near a home. On arrival, a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the driveway was engulfed in flames, just eight feet from the side of the home.
The heat from the fire also significantly damaged a second SUV parked next to it and melted several rows of vinyl siding on the home.
The fire was contained by volunteer firefighters before it entered the house. Two adults and two children, warned about the fire by their barking dog, were able to evacuate safely.
"Fortunately, the wall immediately in front of the vehicle was masonry in construction and it absorbed a lot of the heat and prevented the fire from extending into the home," said Fire Chief Bill Davin.
He added that the damage to the home appears to be cosmetic in nature, therefore the occupants were able to return to the house.
The fire is under investigation.
