The Fireman's Carnival is among the oldest traditions in Monroe and has been enjoyed by several generations of residents from Monroe and surrounding towns. Volunteer firefighters first organized the carnival in 1923 to help fund the purchase of their first fire truck and equipment. Today, Monroe continues to be served by a 100% volunteer fire department which still relies on the carnival to help fund its operations and capital improvements.
