Hackers Scheme to Get Tax Refunds from the IRS

Several cases have been reported in Monroe after a Fairfield CPA firm was hacked.

On April 16, a Guinea Road man told police the IRS had called to inform him that his identity had been compromised.

Monroe police said this is one of several complaints stemming from hackers obtaining customer information from the CPA firm of Lyons and Lyons, 75 Hillside Road in Fairfield.

Lt. Brian McCauley said the IRS told police that the suspects stole information from 2011 tax returns and copied it onto 2012 tax forms for a refund.
