House Fire? Haz Mat Situation? No. Just False Alarms

Monroe firefighters responded to calls of a possible house fire and of two suspicious buckets on the side of the road at Pond View and
Sentry Hill, near Masuk, on Friday night. But Kevin Catalano, the fire company spokesman, says both cases turned out not to be as major as they initially sounded.

Catalano said the call about the buckets came in a little after midnight and firefighters determined that one contained sand and the other contained
Sheetrock joint compound.

"Neighbors were concerned the way the buckets were positioned and followed the 'if you see something, say something' approach," Catalano said.

Spinning Tires

Earlier Friday night, at around 7 p.m., firefighters from all three fire companies
were called to Monroe Turnpike, near Josie's Ring Road, for a possible house on
fire.

However, Catalano said it turned out to be heavy smoke from a car doing a "burn out" with its tires nearby.
