Intruders Ransack Trumbull Home, Steal Money

Masked intruders confronted a man in his parents' Trumbull home before stealing money and searching for other items Friday night, police reported on Monday.

The man, whose parents own a Trumbull business, was targeted and it was not a random act, police said. No one was injured.

"On Friday evening, Dec. 6, a 911 call was received at 11:09 p.m. reporting a home invasion that occurred on Beech Street, located at the lower end of Madison Avenue," said Trumbull Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry.

"This is the home of the complainant/victim’s family who are currently away on vacation. The complainant was the only one home at the time and was temporarily staying at his parents’ house," Harry said.

The man reportedly told police had just closed his parents' business, EJ News in the Westfield Trumbull Mall, and returned to their home to find two masked men.

"In addition to taking the night deposit in cash and checks, the suspects allegedly ransacked other rooms in the house looking for more money.  The suspects eventually fled to a waiting vehicle operated by a third suspect.  The total amount of money taken is unknown at this time," Harry said.

The investigation is ongoing.
