A Crown View Drive resident told police he was in his house at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 2 when his dog became agitated. He let his pet outside and heard it run around the house before barking and growling in the garage.
He went into the garage and confronted a man holding onto his son's black and gray Mountain Bike, police said.
The stranger asked if the house was owned by someone else and after being told no, he said, "Oh, I thought he lived here," according to police.
The homeowner reportedly ordered the man to leave, then called police with a description of the intruder, his vehicle and his license plate number.
The owner of the vehicle is William Kundert Jr., 54, of South Main Street in Newtown and officers visited him at his home. Police said Kundert admitted to being on Crown View Drive, but claimed he was only leaning on the bicycle and wasn’t trying to take it.
Kundert was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny. He was released on $1,000 bond for a Sept. 11 court date.
