Man Arrested in Attempted Theft of Teeth Whitening Strips

A New Haven man turned himself in for allegedly stealing teeth whitening strips and electric toothbrushes from Rite Aid Pharmacy.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

Warrant Arrest

A New Haven man was arrested over the weekend for the attempted theft of $1,476 worth of personal care items, including Crest Whitening Strips and electric toothbrushes, from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 435 Main Street in Monroe, in July of 2011.

New Haven police turned Carlos Strickland, 35, of Davenport Avenue over to the Monroe Police Department on its arrest warrant charging him with conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.

According to the July 5, 2011 incident, Strickland allegedly attempted to throw the hand-basket full of stolen items through the open window of a get-away car and missed. The driver then pretended not to know him before picking him up and allegedly ramming the vehicle of a customer who tried to block their escape.

Strickland was released on $1,000 bond for a Nov. 27 court date.

Theft of a Ring

Northeast Laser & Electropolish, 246 Main Street, reported the theft of a $392 ring on Nov. 16.

Police said the owner told an officer that the company received a shipment of 11 rings from Tiffany & Co. to do an engraving on Nov. 2 when it had no power from Hurricane Sandy. The box of rings was placed in a safe that day and the engraver noticed one ring was missing on Nov. 5, according to the report.

Police are investigating the theft.
