Monroe Man Dies from Injuries in Motorcycle Accident

Adam Haydu, 30, was in critical condition since his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Leavenworth Road in Shelton on July 8.

Adam Haydu, 30, of Monroe succumbed to his injuries Thursday from a motorcycle accident that occurred on Leavenworth Road in Shelton on July 8, according to a press release issued by the Shelton Police Department today.

On July 8 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Shelton Police received multiple 911 calls reporting an accident with injuries between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Leavenworth Road at the driveway entrance to the KellyNick LLC/Mont's Mart.

Haydu sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital and the driver of the vehicle, James Steinmetz, 33, of Monroe, sustained minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital for treatment, police said. There were no other occupants in the car or on the motorcycle.

Shelton Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene and both the vehicle and the motorcycle sustained extensive damage and the road was closed until approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 9, according to the report.

The accident is still under investigation by the Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team with assistance from the Trumbull Police Traffic Division and no enforcement action has been taken at this time.
