Monroe Police Station Project Nears Completion

Townspeople may have already noticed that grass has filled in the hill by the new entrance for the Monroe Police Department or visited the brand new lobby inside. Police Capt. Michael Flick says the $4.1 million renovation and addition is 95% complete, adding all new areas are operational and occupied.

"The last item that needs completion is the elevator, which installation is almost complete," Flick said.

Meanwhile, the new door access control system has been installed. Flick said it connects with the Board of Education system.

"We have collaborated with the Board of Education in regard to the access control and camera monitoring systems for both the schools and police department," he said. "Police officers I.D./access control cards not only give them access to the police department, but to the town's schools, allowing officers quick access to the schools in the event of an emergency."

The police department's dispatch center has four 50-inch monitors dedicated to monitoring cameras within the schools, according to Flick.

He said the town building committee and police will schedule an open house for tours in the near future.
