Moving Truck Hits Power Line, Sparking Fire on Hurd Avenue

The electrical fire did not extend inside the house

A tractor trailer moving van got caught on low hanging power and cable wires on Hurd Avenue, causing a short to the electric service on the house, leaving a scorch mark up the side of it and sparking a small fire on the outside of the home.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 6:15 tonight. An alert neighbor and the truck driver extinguished the fire with dry chemical fire extinguishers.

No one was at home and fearing a possible electrical fire in the house, firefighters forced entry, but fortunately found the fire did not extend into the house, according to Kevin Catalano, spokesman for the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.
