One Car Crash at Stevenson Dam Leads to a DUI Arrest

Police arrested a driver for DUI after finding his green Honda Accord smashed into the concrete barrier at Stevenson Dam at around 1:27 a.m. on Jan. 14.

When Monroe officers responded to a call about the one-car-accident on Route 34, a Connecticut State trooper was already on the scene, but the driver was not, according to the report. After identifying the driver as Drew Allen, 21, of Freeman Road in Oxford by the vehicle's registration, police found him at his home.

Police said Allen admitted to driving the car and that his eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred while he spoke to the officers. Allen said he had lost control of his vehicle and did not know why he had left the scene, according to police.

Officers arrested him and breath test results at headquarters indicated his blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, police said.

Allen was charged with evading responsibility, DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond for a Jan. 21 court date.
