Police: A Stolen Rental Car Leads to an Arrest

A Hartford man turned himself in on a warrant after a Kia he rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Monroe two years ago was recovered in New York City.

A Hartford man was arrested Thursday after allegedly renting a 2011 Kia Sorento from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 75 Main Street in Monroe, two years ago and never returning it.

Raheem Harte, 43, of Joulett Street was charged with second-degree larceny after officers from Troop I turned him over to the Monroe Police Department on its warrant following a traffic stop on Interstate 91, police said.

Harte was held on $10,000 bond and arraigned on Friday morning.

On June 24, 2011, Enterprise filed a stolen vehicle complaint when Harte rented the Kia and did not return it. Police said they contacted Harte at the time and he told them his trip had been extended and he would return the car as soon as possible.

But on July 1 of that year, Enterprise told police the car still had not been returned, according to the report.
