A Pickup Truck Struck a Utility Pole On Main Street Monday

A 'mechanical breakdown' caused the accident and the driver appeared to be okay.

A 56-year-old Monroe man lost control of his 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck while driving on Main Street after a "mechanical breakdown" and crashed into a utility pole near Bradford Drive at around 3:22 p.m. on Monday, according to police.

Police Capt. Michael Flick said no ambulance was requested, so there appeared to be no serious injuries.

Police officers and firefighters responded to the call and a crew from Connecticut Light & Power was on the scene to fix the pole, police said.

"No power outages were reported," Flick said.

Flick said the ball joint on the truck went, causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle.
