Police Arrest a Fugitive in a Drug Bust at Rite Aid

Three Bronx suspects allegedly obtained oxycontin through fraudulent prescriptions for illegal sales

The following arrest information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Bronx woman tried to pick up a prescription for oxycontin at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 535 Main Street, at 3 p.m. Thursday, but the store manager became suspicious.

Police said she found the phone number on the prescription was not the one for the doctor's office, which the manager called. The doctor did not fill out that prescription and said the customer was not a patient there, according to police.

Officers responding to the call of possible fraud spotted a white Mazda with New York plates in the parking lot and believed it was a get-away car. The driver began to pull away when police arrived, before being stopped, police said.

The two men in the Mazda said they were waiting for their girlfriend to pick up a prescription inside.

"They were acting very nervous," Lt. Brian McCauley said Friday. "Officer Dennis Bradshaw checked the vehicle with his canine, Liberty."

Inside the Mazda was $7,980 in cash and three packages of prescriptions for oxycontin made out to three different female names, according to the report. Police said the men, Matthew Simmons, 28, and Jason Jimenez, 33, both from the Bronx, told the officers they did not know who the drugs belonged to.

One-point-three grams of marijuana and $348 in cash were also found on Thompson, and 2.3 grams of suspected marijuana was found on Simmons, according to the report.

McCauley said a check made on Simmons found he was wanted by authorities in Albany as a fugitive from justice.

The woman who allegedly tried to fill a bogus prescription, Bianca Thompson, 21, of East 149th Street in the Bronx was charged with four counts of illegally obtaining or supplying of a controlled substance, three counts of illegal manufacture, distribution or sale of a prescription drug, three counts of possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance and four counts of conspiracy.

Jimenez of Prospect Avenue was charged with four counts of illegally obtaining or supplying drugs, one count of illegal manufacture, distribution or sale of drugs, three counts of possession of narcotics, and four counts of conspiracy.

Simmons of Bryant Street was charged with four counts of illegally obtaining or supplying of a controlled substance, one count of illegal manufacture, distribution or sale of a prescription drug, three counts of possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance and four counts of conspiracy.

Thompson was held on $25,000 bond, Jimenez on $50,000 bond and Simmons on $75,000 bond plus $100,000 bond for being a fugitive from justice. All three were arraigned in court Friday.
