Police: DNA Match Identifies Burglary Suspect

Monroe police officers investigating the scene of two break-ins at businesses on Pepper Street on Aug. 27 found evidence and submitted it to the Connecticut State Forensic Lab for a possible DNA match. At the time, there was no match, and the DNA sample stayed in the "unsolved file". But a positive hit came back on April of 2013 and police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Dominick F. Colangelo, 45, of Park Street in Stratford turned himself in on that warrant on June 6 charging him in the overnight thefts of over $13,000 worth of tools and equipment from a locked storage trailer and a locked van.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree trespass, first-degree larceny and fourth-degree larceny. Colangelo was released on $20,000 bond for a June 14 court date.
