New Police Radio Tower Installation Going Without a Hitch

An existing police radio tower will be replaced in a different spot to make way for an addition.

A 101-foot-tall lattice tower to the left of the Monroe Police Department's entrance is being removed and replaced with a new 120-foot monopole tower on the right side, making way for the $4.1 million building project for the 7 Fan Hill Road station. The tower provides radio communication for officers and other emergency services.

The work being performed by Construction Services of Branford LLC is already well underway, according to Police Capt. Michael Flick.

"It's moving quickly. I'm very happy with the work. No complaints," Flick told members of the police station's building committee at their Thursday night meeting.

He added that the building inspector is also impressed with the firm.

Flick said CSB is waiting for steel rebar and should be able to continue the job by Thursday.

When the tower is removed, Chief John Salvatore said there will be no loss of service, because his department will use another communication tower until the new tower is up and running.
