Cruiser Crash, Mistaken Identity and Suspended License

Cruiser Crash

A Monroe police officer and two motorists were sent to the hospital Wednesday following a two-car accident involving a police cruiser on Route 111 Wednesday night.

According to Monroe Police Captain Michael Flick, Officer Todd Keeping was traveling north on Route 111 at approximately 9:50 pm in his cruiser with its overhead lights on responding to a call near Stevenson Dam.

Although an official police report was not readily available, Flick said as Keeping's cruiser was in the vicinity of Marian Heights on Route 111 it was struck by a Hummer H2 making a left turn into his path.

Flick said the Hummer rolled over after striking the police cruiser causing major damage to the truck.

The police cruiser also sustained moderate damage in the crash.

 The two occupants of the Hummer, who were not identified, were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport for minor physical injuries.

Officer Keeping also sustained minor injuries from the crash and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.

Flick said the police department's Serious Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and a full report is expected early next week.  

Flick said Keeping was released from the hospital and reported for duty on Thursday.

To date, no charges have been filed.

They were wearing suits

A resident riding a bicycle reported to police that two men of exposed their private parts while swimming and showering at Great Hollow Lake Wednesday.

According to the police report, the unidentified resident told police she saw the two men expose themselves coming out of the lake and proceeded to take a shower fully exposed at the lake's facilities.

According to the police report, officers confirmed the two unidentified men were wearing bathing suits and used towels to cover their private parts while they showered.

No charges were filed.

Newtown Woman Arrested

A Newtown woman allegedly traveling too slow on Main Street was charged with driving with a suspended license dating back to 2002 early Wednesday morning.

According to police, Cynthia Eggars, 36 of Church Hill Road Newtown was charged with driving with a suspended license after being clocked by police radar in the vicinity of 707 Main Street a driving 15 to 20 miles an hour sometime after 3 am.

The speed limit on that section of Main Street is 40 miles per hour.

During the investigation it was discovered that Eggers license was suspended since November 2002.

Eggars was charged with driving under suspension and taken into custody.

 Eggars was later released on $250 bond and is due in Bridgeport Superior Court.
