Police Reports: Stolen Snowmobiles, Fraud, Pot and a DUI

Officers found a stolen trailer, made a DUI arrest, issued an infraction for pot and received a report of bank card fraud.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

 

A DUI on Route 111

Police stopped a tan '97 Buick Sentry for swerving within its lane and traveling at various speeds on Monroe Turnpike, near Route 110, at around 5:17 p.m. Monday, according to the report.

The driver, Robert Maggi, 43, of Smith Street in Seymour was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond for a Jan. 3 court date.

After police stopped the Buick, the officer noticed that Maggi's eyes were glazed and that he appeared slow in his reactions, according to the report. Police said that Maggi told the officer he had not been drinking, but that he had taken several prescription medications.

Field tests determined that he was under the influence, police said, adding urine test results are pending.

Stolen Snowmobiles

Aquarion Water Co. complained about a snowmobile trailer parked on its property, back from the road on Velvet Street, on Thursday. The ensuing police investigation determined that the enclosed trailer had been reported stolen from Douglas Drive in Oxford on Nov. 26.

The black and silver Blizzard snowmobile trailer is a V-nose model. The plates had been removed and officers found that the locks on the door had also been removed, police said. The trailer itself was empty.

Before the trailer had been stolen, police said it had a New York registration plate and that three snowmobiles were stored inside.

Marijuana Infraction

Police initially stopped an '04 Volvo for a broken tail light near the intersection of Route 59 and Stanley Road at around 8:15 Friday night, but wound of issuing an infraction for possession of less-than-half-an-ounce of marijuana to the driver, Vincenzo Cardillo, 20, of Edgewood Road in Fairfield.

Officers detected the strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle during the traffic stop, but Cardillo said he didn't have anything, according to police. Police canine Liberty was brought in and alerted officers to drugs in the Volvo, according to the report.

Police said a search produced a clear plastic bag containing less-than-half an ounce of marijuana, three roaches and one pipe.

Credit Card Fraud

A 44-year-old Monroe woman reported $2,443 worth of unauthorized charges to her bank card Friday.

On Thursday, 's fraud division called the woman about unusual charges on her bank card. Within a five minute period, police said four charges totaling $2,443 were made for plane tickets from Air Canada and sports equipment.

The woman told police that her debit card had always been on her and that she does not know how someone stole the number. People's United Bank opened an investigation, reimbursed the woman for the charges and issued her a new card, police said.
