Nicolaos Zachariadis of Walnut Street in Shelton turned himself in on two warrants Thursday stemming from thefts from motor vehicles in the Big Y supermarket parking lot in late August.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny with $1,500 bond on one warrant and with third-degree burglary and fourth degree larcey with $5,000 bond on the other. Police said Zachariadis could not make bond, so he was arraigned.

Stolen A/C Units

Five air conditioning units were reported stolen Thursday from the top of storage containers on the roof of Gaslight Square, 500 Monroe Turnpike.

Police said the units, with a total value of over $20,000, were taken sometime overnight on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Sgt. Keith White said the units were most likely stolen for the copper.

Burglary on Oak Ridge

A burglary was reported on Oak Ridge Road late Thursday morning.

Police said the homeowner left at around 11:15 a.m. and came back in about a half-an-hour to find her front door unlocked, though she had locked it when she left. She also discovered broken glass from a window on her back porch, according to the report.

Though there was evidence that someone had gone through belongings in two bedrooms, police said nothing was missing. Officers believed noise made by a next door neighbor who returned home during the incident and let her dog out may have scared the burglar(s) off.

Narcotics Violation

William Falbo, 26, of Bishops Circle in Newtown was fined for possession of less-than-a-half-ounce of marijuana after his Chevy was stopped on Route 111 for improper headlights at 7:11 Thursday night.

Police said the officer smelled the odor of marijuana when the driver opened his window and saw a green leafy substance on the passenger seat, which tested positive for pot.
