Police Reports: DUI, Burglary, Fraud and Trespassing

Officers arrested a Lovers Lane man for DUI and a Sandy Hook man for trespassing, and investigated credit card fraud and a burglary on Fan Hill Road. A Verna Road teen tried to break chains on his mother's car, so he could drive it.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

A 50-year-old Moose Hill Road woman reported one fraudulent purchase and two failed attempts on her Visa card March 13.

Police said that FIS Monitoring Service informed her that $53.16 was charged at an online GameStop for codes for a Playstation 2, and that on March 3 attempts for purchases of $49.99 from GameStop.com and $84.99 from Kaspersky.com (both based in Texas) were rejected by the monitoring service.

The victim told police she had only used that credit card at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Backus Avenue in Danbury, adding there is a GameStop in the same plaza, according to the report.

Burglary on Fan Hill

A Real Estate agent discovered a burglary at a Fan Hill Road House for sale on March 7, police said. A refrigerator was reported stolen from the inlaw section, as well as piping from the basement.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to the house, which is located in the 500 block of Fan Hill Road.

Criminal Trespass

Police charged a Sandy Hook man with criminal trespass March 12, after officers saw his 2011 Ford FT50 parked next to the "No Trespassing" sign at the police department's firing range on Garder Road and him walking behind the building and carrying a bag.

John Lewis, 55, of Shepaug Road told officers he was there to sell 19-pounds of brass from spent shell casings for cash, according to the report. Police said he admitted that he did not have permission to be there.

He was charged with third-degree criminal trespass and sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on March 21.

DUI on Lovers Lane

Bridgeport officers called Monroe police at 9:24 p.m. March 12 to assist them in locating a white Chevy van whose driver was possibly involved in an assault, evading and a DUI.

Monroe police saw a vehicle fitting the description turn onto Lovers Lane and pull into the driveway of number 32, according to the report. The driver, Frank Rega III, 56, who lives at the address, appeared unsteady as he exited the van, police said.

Rega had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence, according to the report. He was charged with DUI and bond was set at $500 for a March 26 court date.

Monroe's breathalyzer was not working, so Rega was brought to the Trumbull Police Department and Bridgeport police were notified and continued their investigation.

Breaking the Chains

Police were called to a house on Verna Road on March 9 when a couple's 17-year-old son tried to break the chain on his mother's car, so he could drive it against his parents' wishes, according to police.

Police said the teen got angry after an argument with his parents and decided he would drive the car anyway. When officers arrived the male was sitting in the driver's seat, talking on his cell phone and holding a pair of pliers and a round file.

No charges were filed. The parents will deal with it on their own.
