A fraudulent prescription for 120 tablets of Oxycodone was reported at pharmacy, 435 Main Street, Friday. Police said the suspect left the store as the pharmacy technician looked into the validity of her prescription.

According to the report, a woman came in on Jan. 7 with a prescription from the Bronx Care Adult Medical Practice in New York, which made the technician suspicious, because of the out-of-state location and the fact that the woman was not a regular customer.

The customer said she was 34-years-old and lived in Sandy Hook, police said. When the pharmacy technician called the doctor's phone number on the prescription the woman said she had an emergency and had to leave, according to the report.

Police said the number for the Bronx Care Adult Medical Practice was wrong and that once the technician found the right number for the doctor, she was told is was a false prescription.

Police are investigating the incident.

A Bad Check

Police are investigating a Jan. 7 report of a bad check. Swanson Fuel, 1485 Monroe Turnpike, told police a 47-year-old Shelton customer sent them a $522 check for fuel on Nov. 22 and that the bank returned it for insufficient funds on Dec. 1.

A letter was sent to the Congress Avenue resident, but police said he did not respond.

An Elaborate Con Job

A con artist posing as a Dell computers employee tried to prey upon a Purdy Hill Road couple last weekend, according to the police report filed Saturday.

On Friday, police said the woman of the house listened to a voicemail message left by someone claiming to be from Dell's security department. When she called back on Saturday, a man named Ernest told her someone attempted to purchase a $1,300 camera through her Dell account using her husband's name, date of birth and Social Security number.

Because a Vallejo, California address was given for shipping, the Dell employee said the purchase was denied.

The husband told police they called the number again and were again connected to Ernest, noting it was odd to get the same representative twice in a row. During the conversation, police said Ernest kept asking for the husband's Social Security number. The couple did not give it to him, and he eventually hung up, the report said.

The woman looked up Dell on the Internet and called. She said she was told that Dell's fraud department was not open on weekends, so it was impossible to have spoken with someone from Dell on Saturday.

Police are investigating the incident.

Credit Card Fraud

A 22-year-old Cross Hill Road woman reported a fraudulent charge on her Visa credit car Friday.

While looking at her account online, she noticed a $212.70 charge to Footware-Deckers that she did not make, police said, adding the only information for the company was an Arizona telephone number.

Though the victim's card was still on her possession, she told police that she had used it to make online purchases, according to the report. She contacted the bank and the money was returned to her account, police said.

"Newtown Savings Bank has been very good about working with the police department and their customers," Lt. Brian McCauley said.

Vandalized with Pink Paintballs

Two vehicles parked on Horizon Court were struck several times with paintballs, according to a vandalism report filed Monday.

A 49-year-old Horizon Court woman told police one of her vehicles was struck five times with pink paintballs, with one breaking the left, rear brake light, police said, adding her other vehicle was struck four times on the passenger side.

Police said the incident occurred sometime between 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tree Takes Out Power, Closes Road

A neighborhood lost power for several hours Saturday and a portion of Route 111 was closed after police said a Bagburn Lane man cut down a tree on the edge of his property and it fell on power lines as it landed across the road.

The road hazard in the 1400 block of Route 111 was reported to police at 11:03 a.m. and officers re-routed northbound traffic to Bagburn Lane and southbound traffic to Old Zoar Road. Police said a crew from Connecticut Light & Power removed the tree from the roadway and repaired the lines, re-opening the area for traffic by 1:30 p.m.

Police said the 49-year-old Bagburn Lane resident told officers he could not control the direction the approximately 70-foot-tall tree fell in after he cut it down.

GPS Unit Stolen

A $100 TomTom GPS was reported stolen Thursday from a 2010 Chevy parked near the swimming pool at Northbrook condominiums.

Police said the 27-year-old Hollow Tree Lane victim told officers he discovered the theft after finding his lunch bag on the ground near the car.

The incident occurred sometime between Wednesday and Thursday, police said, adding the car had been left unlocked with the GPS unit in plain sight.

Dog Bites Postal Worker

A mail carrier told officers she was bit on the right forearm by a large, white pit bull, while delivering mail to a residence on Bagburn Road Saturday.

Police said the mail carrier knocked on the front door and when a man answered it, his dog ran past him and bit her. She was taken to St. Vincent's Immediate Health Care for treatment of the serious bite, according to the report.
