Police Reports: A DUI and Where's that House?

A drunken driving arrest was made on Monroe Turnpike. Police ask residents to make sure they have visible house numbers

DUI arrest

Police officers were monitoring traffic on Route 111 at 5:47 p.m. Tuesday when a white Chevrolet K1500 pick up drove by on its way into town. The police cruiser got directly behind the truck and officers saw it cross the double yellow line and nearly collide with oncoming traffic, according to the report.

Police signaled for the driver to pull into the parking lot at 431 Monroe Turnpike. The driver, Oscar Alves, 47, of Sand Hill Road in Newtown, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, according to police.

Alves was unable to find his paperwork, appeared confused and disoriented, and spoke in a slurred speech, police said, adding field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence.

Alves was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond for a Feb. 15 court date.

Where's that house?

Police officers responding to a call often have difficulty finding an address with snow covered mailboxes and houses that do not have visible street numbers on them.

The Monroe Police Department reminds homeowners who do not have visible house numbers to get them, so emergency responders can find their house when called upon.
