Police Reports: An Accident with Drugs and Weapons

A Newtown man was arrested today after police found him lying on the side of the road with his car off the road, partially in the woods, according to the report

The following arrest information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Officers responding to the complaint a suspicious person lying on the side of the road at 4 a.m. Tuesday, found a man lying alongside Huntingtown Road, near the Newtown line. According to the report, a nearby utility pole had been grazed and a green Chevy Cavalier was found off the road and slightly in the woods.

The man, Erik Jurman, 22, of Pebble Road in Newtown, told officers his car just went off the road and that he was not injured, according to the report.

Police said there was the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Jurman's breath and that a search found a knife with a three-and-a-half inch blade in the right rear pocket, a glass marijuana pipe with marijuana residue, and a cigarette box containing six pink pills identified as amphetamines. A bag the officer was allowed to search contained a glass jar with a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana, police said.

When Jurman was brought back to the scene of the accident, police said he told officers he had an Airsoft rifle in the trunk.

Jurman was charged with evading responsibility, driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to keep drugs in original container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, weapons in a motor vehicle and misuse of highway by a pedestrian.

Police said Jurman could not make the total $1,000 bond, so he was arraigned at court later Tuesday morning.
