A Wiltan Drive man was arrested for possession of cocaine Sunday night after an officer stopped his 2000 Pontiac Firebird on the 600 block of Main Street for an illegal marker plate attachment that obscured his car's rear plate, according to police.

The driver, David Medeiros, 35, told police he had left his driver's license at home and a check determined that the license was under suspension, police said. Medeiros appeared nervous, so police canine Gunner was brought in and alerted on the vehicle, according to the report.

Police said a small plastic bag containing a white powder substance that field tested positive for cocaine was found under the ashtray in the car's center console.

Medeiros was charged with improper plate attachment, operating under suspension and possession of narcotics. Total bond was set at $1,000 for a March 28 court date.
