Police Reports: Argument with 85-Year-Old Man Becomes Physical

A Settlers Farm Road man was arrested for allegedly trying to prevent an emergency call during a domestic and a screw was used to puncture a tire in the Big Y parking lot.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

Michael Hemenway, 24, of Settlers Farm Road appeared to be intoxicated when got into an argument with his 85-year-old father at around 9:58 Thursday night, according to police. When his father tried to call 9-1-1, police said the confrontation became physical and Hemenway wrestled with his father and struck his arm to prevent him from calling.

Hemenway was charged with assault of a victim 60 years or older and interfering with emergency calls. He was released on $1,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Tire Vandalism

A 50-year-old Seymour woman who works at Big Y supermarket reported vandalism to the tire of her '97 Saturn SL1 when it was parked in the shopping center parking lot Tuesday.

She arrived at work at 4:14 a.m. and when she was about to leave in the afternoon she noticed she had a flat tire, according to the report. The store manager pulled a small screw he found out of the tire, police said.

The victim told police that similar incidents have been reported to the police department and that she believes this was related, police said. The damage is estimated at $55.
