A 36-year-old Shelton woman appeared to be so drunk that she could not care for herself and was taken to the hospital, according to police. Her companion, Brian West-McNulty, 27, also appeared to be intoxicated and was hiding the woman's purse under his jacket, police said.

Officers found that he allegedly took some of her medication. First he denied it, before admitting to taking it, according to police. West-McNulty also had other pills on him that were not in the proper container, police said.

West-McNulty of Nortorn Street in New Haven was charged with possession of narcotics, sixth-degree larceny and failure to keep drugs in an original container. He was released on $5,000 bond for a March 9 court date.

Three-car accident leads to DUI

Officers responding to a three-car accident in the 100-block of Main Street at 10:05 p.m. Feb. 24, observed a gray 2011 Suburu Legacy in the center of the south lane, facing north. The driver was still behind the wheel and searching for his paperwork, according to the report.

An open bottle of Heineken could be seen in the front passenger seat and the passenger told officers it belonged to the driver, Robert Probst, 55, of Pinnacle Way in Danbury, police said.

There were no serious injuries from the accident, but police said Probst and his male passenger both had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on them.

When asked how the accident happened, Probst said, "I looked behind me and the next thing I know, the airbag went off," according to police, who said Probst believes he may have drifted into oncoming traffic.

Probst's eyes were glassy and he needed to lean on his car to stand up, police said, adding field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence. Once at headquarters, Probst refused to take a breath test, according to the report.

He was charged with DUI, traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive right on a hill or curve. Bond was set at $500 for a March 7 court date.

A mailbox bombing

A Ripton Ridge Road man made a vandalism complaint at 9:33 Monday morning after finding that his $25 plastic mailbox appeared to have blown up.

A neighbor told police he heard a big bang at 3 a.m. and had gotten out of bed to see what it was.

Road rage incident

A 20 year-old man and a 43-year-old woman saw flashes of light inside their Century Hill Road home at around six o'clock on Sunday night and noticed a stranger taking photos of their house outside.

When they tried to confront him, police said the 21-year-old Columbia, Conn., man got into his car and took off. The residents got into their vehicle and pursued him, turning in front of him at the intersection of Route 111 and Pondview Road.

Police said the man and woman got out of their car and banged on the driver's side window of the other vehicle. The driver called 911 on his cell phone.

It turned out the man "works indirectly" for Bank of America, taking photos of houses in foreclosure. The Century Hill Road residents told officers they were afraid someone was trying to damage their property.

Both parties decided to have the incident recorded, but declined to press charges.

Wrong house

A homeowner on Maple Terrace reported a possible burglary at 1:32 a.m. Sunday, after a 15-year-old male entered his home through the unlocked front door. When he confronted the youth, the teen fled to a waiting SUV, according to the report.

Officers responding to the complaint found the SUV parked in a driveway next door and determined the male had been at a gathering on the street and had left his North Face jacket. He had come back to get it, but accidentally walked into the wrong house, police said.
