Police Reports: Attempted Burglary, Door-to-Door Sales

Someone tried to enter a house on Barn Hill Road and homeowners are complaining about salespeople in their neighborhoods

Attempted Burglary

A Barn Hill Road man told police Saturday that a screen door on the ground level of his house had been cut, but that entry had not been made.

The house is not occupied because the owner is in the process of moving, police said, adding the resident believes area youths tried to break in and use the house as a place to hangout.

Lt. Brian McCauley said homeowners have the right to ask solicitors to show them a permit from the police department. A permit allows merchants to solicit and also verifies that police are aware of them and have done a background check, according to the McCauley.
