Copper Pipes Stolen in Burglary

A Monroe man reported the theft of copper pipes Saturday from a house in foreclosure he recently bought on Pastors Walk.

While buying the house from the bank, police said the man installed a new hot water furnace and updated the kitchen and bathrooms. He took possession of the house on July 15 and continued to make improvements, according to the report.

A Bridgeport man was arrested on a variety of motor vehicle charges at 8:41 Saturday night after officers stopped his Toyota Camry at the corner of Route 111 and Spring Hill Road because it had no front plate and a headlight had blown out, according to the report.

Jonathan Rodriguez, 23, of East Main Street was charged misuse of plates, driving without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating with a suspended license. Bond was set at $500.

Police also found there was an active arrest warrant on him for first-degree failure to appear in court. The bond for that charge was $15,000.

Rodriguez was scheduled to appear in court for all charges on Monday.

During the stop, police said they found that the license plate on the Toyota belonged to a 2007 Mercedes and that Rodriguez's license was suspended since 2007.

DUI on Main Street

A Bridgeport man was arrested for DUI on Main Street at 1:37 Sunday morning, while his one-year-old daughter was in the car, according to police.

David Da Silva, 34, of Catherine Street was charged with DUI, failure to remain in the proper lane, operating without a license and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on $1,000 bond for an Aug. 2 court date and a referral was made to the Department of Children and Families.

Officers saw Da Silva's red jeep traveling at a slow rate of speed, while heading south on Main Street, crossing over the double yellow line several times, according to the report.

After officers stopped the jeep, police said Da Silva had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and that field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence. At headquarters, police said Da Silva refused to participate in breathalyzer tests.

Shed Burglaries

An Elm Street man noticed a chainsaw was missing from a shed a week ago, but he did not file a police report until learning Sunday afternoon that even more items were taken from another shed on his property.

One thousand feet of extension cords, an aluminum entrance door for a house and miscellaneous tools were stolen from the other shed, police said.
