It has been over a week since heavy rains and strong winds from Tropical Storm Irene wreaked havoc on Monroe, causing area flooding, toppling trees, downing power lines and knocking out power to most homeowners and businesses. But the damage still lingers.
On Tuesday, a tree on wires was reported on Maple Drive and two separate reports of a tree on power lines on Old Zoar Road also came in. In one case, firefighters were called in for smoking lines.
Then on Wednesday, police were called to a tree on the wire of a smoking telephone pole on Turkey Roost Road at 12:16 p.m.; and later of a smoking utility pole in the 1,000 block of Route 111.
