Police Reports: Car Accident Leads to DUI

A Dodge Intrepid struck a tree on Willamsburg Drive late Monday night

A 19-year-old Monroe man was arrested for DUI after a one-car-accident on Williamsburg Drive at 11:07 Monday night.

Police said Brian Barnaby of Georges Lane was heading north on Williamsburg Drive when he lost control of his Dodge Intrepid and it veered into someone's front yard, went over a small stone wall and struck a large oak tree.

Residents from the neighborhood heard the crash and told police that Barnaby was driving, according to the report. Barnaby, who was okay after the accident, also said he was driving, police said.

He had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, his eyes were bloodshot and glazed over and he spoke with a slurred speech, police said, adding field sobriety tests determined Barnaby was under the influence.

Barnaby was charged with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane and released on $500 bond for a July 26 court date.
