Police canvassed the neighborhood and found a car fitting the description with damage consistent with a vehicle hitting a tree and saw two teenagers walking on the street.

The 16-year-old boy, who lives on Hillside Lane, told officers he was driving the car with the girl, also 16, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree, police said, adding the youth told officers he fled the scene because he did not have a driver's license.

He was charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating without a license. The minor was released on a promise to appear in court on July 18.

Stolen Cash

A Bridgeport woman turned herself in on a warrant Friday for allegedly stealing $35 from the local group home.

Asia Pierce, 21, of Prince Street was charged with sixth-degree larceny. She was released on $500 bond for a July 15 court date.

A Marijuana Fine

Police stopped a black 2000 Acura heading north on Main Street at 10:47 p.m. Saturday, because it had heavily tinted windows and no front plate, according to the report.

Police canine Gunner detected narcotics in the car and the driver admitted to having concealed marijuana in the cup holder, police said.

Kadeem Thomas, 20, of Sunrise Terrace in Bridgeport was issued a $150 infraction for possession of less-than-half-an-ounce of marijuana.

The fine is based on a new statute enacted on July 1.

Stolen Card Used in Monroe

A 43-year-old Colorado woman reported identity theft and credit card fraud to her local police department in Berthoud, but was told to contact Monroe police too, because her card had been used for a $513.91 purchase at Rite Aid on July 7, according to the report.

Police said the card — and not just the number — was used for the transaction.

The woman called Monroe police on Saturday.

Lost Camp Equipment

A family went camping on Campsite One at Webb Mountain Park on Saturday and found a tent already set up at 4:10 p.m., but no one was around and no other campers were scheduled to be in the park, police said.

The park ranger did an inventory of what was in the tent — a backpack, pillow cases, a blanket, a sheet and other gear, but there was no information to identify anyone police said.

The equipment is being held at the Monroe Police Department. Police are hoping the owner calls the general number at 203-261-3622 to pick it up.
