A Wayne Road woman was arrested for DUI after police say her 2000 Ford Contour drifted into the wrong lane and struck the driver's side of a '91 Acura Legend as she headed south on Pepper Street at around 9:27 Sunday night.

The accident occured near the intersection with Brook Street and police said both drivers pulled into a nearby parking lot to exchange information. However, the Ford drove back out and was pursued by the Acura, whose driver flipped its lights until the Ford pulled over in the 50 block of Pepper Street, according to the report.

When officers arrived on the scene, police said the driver of the Ford, Laura Matthews, 26, of Wayne Road, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her and was slurring her words.

Field sobriety tests determined Matthews was under the influence and breath tests at police headquarters found that her blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, according to the report.

Matthews was charged with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane. Bond was set at $500 for a Dec. 20 court date.
