Monroe police canine Gunner was brought in to assist Easton police with a DUI arrest at 12:35 Wednesday morning.

According to Easton police, an officer on patrol headed north on Route 59 — near the Fairfield town line — when an oncoming '97 Toyota Camry driving in the wrong lane sped toward him. At the last second, the car steered back into the south lane, police said.

The officer turned around and stopped the Camry.

The driver, Kyle Saunders, 21, of Hall Road in Easton, spoke with a slurred speech and fumbled with his paperwork before field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence, according to the report.

Monroe canine Gunner was called to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. A multicolored pipe with marijuana residue was found on the front passenger seat and a police-style baton was also found inside the vehicle, police said.

Saunders was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons in a vehicle. Bond was set at $20 for an April 30 court date.

Water Leak

Police were called to Shadow Wood Circle at Northbrook Condominiums at 3:54 p.m. Wednesday after the assistant property manager had called about a complaint of water coming out of a unit while the owners were on vacation.

Firefighters were called in, entered the house and determined that a hot water heater had burst, police said, adding they were able to shut the water off.

The Northbrook Condo Association is cleaning up damage to the home, according to the report.
