A motor vehicle accident in the 100 block of Hattertown Road led to a DUI arrest at 7:55 Friday night.

Officers called to the scene of the accident saw a 2006 Toyota Highlander near the shoulder with its hazard lights on and noticed the front left tire had come off, according to the report. Police said the car fit the description of a vehicle that a caller had complained about, saying it was driving erratically in the area, hitting the shoulder and curb repeatedly.

The driver, Deirdre Walsh, 43, of Old Town Road in Newtown, had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her, had trouble maintaining her balance, and her speech was slow and slurred, police said. Field tests determined she was under the influence, leading to her arrest.

Walsh was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane and DUI and released on $500 bond for an April 30 court date.

Fraud Complaint

A 72-year-old Sprucebrook Trail woman told police Monday that purchases of makeup for $117 and $119 had been fraudulently made at separate businesses in her name through a Paypal account in March. A service called Bill Me Later later sent her a bill for $368.60, including late fees and interest.

She reportedly does not have a Paypal nor a Bill Me Later account. Police said when the woman called Bill Me Later she was told they did not want to hear from her until she had a police report.

No Harm Done

The Stevenson Fire Department had complained when someone was dumping garbage in its Dumpster and later found it was a Brookside Trail woman.

When they spoke to her, police said she told them she was tired of seeing all the litter from Cottage Street in front of the fire department and Post Office, so she collected it and put it in the Dumpster, which she had thought was a public one.

No charges were filed.
