A woman's credit card number was stolen and unauthorized charges to a man's debit card were made in Portugal

I.D. thief maxes out card

A 43-year-old Monroe woman told police Sunday someone had used her Visa card to make $1,600 worth of unauthorized purchases.

She discovered that her card had been compromised when she tried to use it and was declined, according to the report. Six items were bought with the card. Police are investigating.

Charges in Portugal

A 47-year-old Monroe man came to police headquarters Sunday to report Internet fraud after learning a company from Portugal tried to make two $224.25 charges to his debit card.

Bank of America had contacted him after putting a hold on his account because the transfer requests were made out of the country, according to the report. Police said the identical charges were made about an hour apart.
