Police Reports: License to Pay

A Monroe man's business partner allegedly bought a car against his objections and stuck him with the payments

A Harmony Lane resident filed a fraud complaint at police headquarters Feb. 19, after a business partner allegedly bought a car against his objections — and in the victim's name.

Police said his business partner, a Newtown man, was given power of attorney to purchase real estate, but the victim later found what he feels to be fishy transactions, like a gray Cadillac Escalade bought in Houston.

The Monroe resident told police his partner had asked him about buying a vehicle and that he said no. But then in July, he received the car's registration in the mail.

When he approached his business partner about it, he reportedly told him a third person was involved and agreed on the purchase with him. The partner agreed to get rid of the Escalade, but now the victim is getting late payment notices from the car dealership, according to police.

Detectives are looking into the details of the case to determine if a crime has been committed.
