Police Reports: Man OK After Motorcycle Accident

Accident victim in "satisfactory" condition, graffiti incidents, stolen gas

Biker is okay

A 64-year-old Monroe man was listed in satisfactory condition at Saint Vincent's Medical Center Tuesday after an accident on Monroe Turnpike, near the intersection of Big Y supermarket on Friday afternoon.

The man balanced a watermelon on the gauges of his motorcycle as he zipped along Route 111, according to the police report.

The driver of a 2001 Nissan heading south, in the opposite direction, was turning into Prushko's gas station — but she did not see the bike.

Police said the two vehicles collided, causing the motorcycle to veer off and strike a 2004 Ford Mustang that was waiting to turn onto Monroe Turnpike from the service station driveway.

The watermelon smashed on the roadway and the rider was taken away on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

Seija Hautala, 45, of Wheeler Road, the driver of the Nissan, was ticketed for making an improper turn, according to police.

Gas heist

Two five-gallon containers of gas were reported stolen from the maintenance shed behind Masuk High School Monday.

Police said the actual theft is believed to have taken place July 30.

Vandals strike

Graffiti was sprayed onto the stairwell to the storage loft at Masuk High School, according to a Monday complaint.

Police said the incident occured over the weekend.

In a separate report, police said an officer recently noticed graffiti all over the sides and the back of the abandoned New Colony Diner building on Main Street.

Police are investigating both incidents.
