Police Reports: Memories and Truck Inspections

Children riding the bus were not in danger and a truck inspection resulted in over $3,000 in fines and put six commercial vehicles out of service.

Misty Water Colored Memories

Police received phone calls from worried parents at 8:17 Wednesday morning after a man in a white Acura TSX was seen filming students getting off the bus at Monroe Elementary School. But officers determined that it was a father "filming his son for family memories."

The family is new to town and it was their son's first day of school, according to police, who had spoken with the father and verified the information.

Truck Inspections

Three police officers, who are federally certified commercial vehicle inspectors from Monroe, Trumbull and Newtown, performed commercial truck inspections on Corporate Drive from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 18.

Officers on patrol escorted trucks with suspected violations to the inspection area. Out of 11 inspections, 56 violations were found resulting in over $3,000 in fines, and six vehicles and four drivers were taken out of service, police said.

Violations included unsecure loads, defective lighting, inoperable brakes, overweight, loose steering box and damaged mechanical parts. Police said four drivers taken out of service had log book issues and were not wearing eye glasses.

Out of the six trucks taken out of service, two were towed from the scene and four were fixed by their companies' mechanics.
