A Pair of DUIs on Route 111

A Bridgeport man was arrested for DUI on Monroe Turnpike at 1:08 Friday morning.

David Nieves, 24, of Orchard Street was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane and possession of less-than-one ounce of marijuana. Bond was set at $500 for an Oct. 17 court date.

Police said officers pulled over his tan Honda after seeing him stop at a flashing yellow light at the intersection with Village Square, while heading south on Route 111 at erratic speeds of 20 and 45 mph.

There was a strong odor of alcohol on Nieves, who had bloodshot eyes, appeared confused and did not know where he was going, police said. A small amount of marijuana was found in Nieves' pocket and field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence, according to the report.

Police said Nieves later refused to participate in breath tests at headquarters.

A Flint Ridge Road woman was arrested for DUI on Monroe Turnpike at 2:08 Saturday morning.

Marylynn Fabryk, 32, was charged with driving under the influence and bond was set at $500 for an Oct. 18 court date.

Police said Fabryk's gray Land Rover was pulled over after she crossed the double yellow line while heading north on Route 111, near Elm Street.

The officer could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage while talking to Fabryk, who seemed confused and disoriented, according to police. Field sobriety tests determined she was under the influence and breath test results showed her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, police said.

I.D. Thief Steals Thousands

An Elaine Drive man told police Saturday that someone fraudulently withdrew nearly $8,000 from his Chase Bank account by using his name and account number.

Police said an identity thief made $4,350 and $3,600 withdrawals from a branch in Cincinnati, Ohio, on consecutive days (Thursday and Friday).

The bank fully reimbursed the victim, according to the report.

Police Nab Burglary Suspect

A Shelton Road resident reported seeing a power-washer that did not belong to him on his back deck Sunday afternoon and police asked him to check around his house in case there was a burglary. He discovered that a pail containing $4,000 worth of half dollars and quarters and a $600 welder were stolen from his basement, along with a chainsaw and a toolbox from his shed, according to the police report.

When asked if he knew of any suspects, the man mentioned the name of another who had stolen from him before.

Seymour police located the suspect's car outside his condo on Balance Rock Road in their town, police said, adding the stolen toolbox was clearly visible inside the vehicle. The owner was brought to the scene and positively identified it, according to the report.

Before Monroe officers arrived, police said the suspect, Stephen J. Medeiros, 27, tried to flee when Seymour officer's knocked on the door of his unit, only to be caught in back of the building.

Medeiros was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. Bond was set at $5,800 for an Oct. 19 court date.
