Police Reports: Over $1K in Credit Card Fraud, Theft from Motor Vehicle

A Monroe man reported 18 fraudulent charges on his MasterCard, and a Monroe Patch article influenced another resident's decision to report a theft of items from his Nissan

Credit Card Fraud

A 47-year-old Bart Road man noticed 18 fraudulent charges on his MasterCard online Monday night, but the dates showed his card had been breached before well before then, police said.

Police said the $1,019 worth of charges included a Master Money purchase, adding the victim does not know what the money was spent on. The charges took place while the man was in possession of his card, according to the report.

 Another Theft Case

A 22-year-old Mill Brook Terrace man told police Tuesday that he read a Monroe Patch article about a rash of thefts from motor vehicles and decided he should report the theft of items from his 2001 Nissan, which he noticed on July 12.

Police said a $42 box of brake pads and a $20 bottle of Abercrombie & Fitch cologne were stolen from his car, which he believes was unlocked. Thieves mostly targeted unlocked vehicles in the thefts that were reported over the past week.

"This is something we have had multiple cases of and the police department recommends not leaving valuable items in your car when you can," Lt. Brian McCauley said Wednesday. "When you have to leave valuables in your car, you should keep them out of sight if possible, and above all, lock your doors."
