Police Reports: Probation Violation, a Crash and a Fleeing Nissan

A paving scammer allegedly violates probation, a car lands atop a snow bank and a Nissan engages police in pursuit

Paving scammer arrested again

Thomas Stanley, who was arrested for a paving scam two years ago, was arrested again on Valentine's Day when officers charged him with a violation of his probation. The Connecticut Probation Department served the warrant.

Stanley, 21, of 125th Street in New Hampshire allegedly took part in a scam, in which he, his brother and a worker used his father's trucks and went door-to-door with offers of leftover asphalt in several Connecticut towns.

The Monroe charges stem from an incident on July 9, 2009.

In August of last year, Stanley and his father, Cornelius, pleaded guilty in New Hampshire after allegedly paving driveways without permission, then intimidating property owners to pay exorbitant fees.

Pursuit on Main Street

An officer saw a gray 2003 Nissan Maxima with heavily tinted windows and a scuffed up front license plate traveling near 707 on Main Street at 6:07 Sunday night and attempted to pull it over — but the driver did not stop.

Instead, he increased his speed to about 45 mph, crossing the double yellow line to pass numerous vehicles to evade the officer, according to police.

The Nissan allegedly blew through a red light at the intersection of routes 25 and 59, and increased its speed to about 60 mph, police said.

The pursuing officer called dispatch and two other police cars headed toward the fleeing Nissan from the other end of Main Street. The extra cars and traffic congestion forced the Nissan to stop near Immediate Medical Care at 388 Main Street, according to the report.

The driver, Shawn Miller, 27, of Pearl Avenue in Hamden, was charged with engaging police in pursuit and operating with a suspended license. Bond was set at $2,500 for a Feb. 22 court date.

Miller told officers he and his girlfriend were on their way to the Poconos in Pennsylvania to gamble and had been following another car, which they had lost sight of, according to police.

Car on a snow bank

Officers responded to the complaint of a disabled vehicle at the corner of Bart Road and Mellon Patch Lane Sunday night and found a tan 2006 Hyundai atop a snow bank, with all four wheels completely off the ground, according to the report.

The street sign for Mellon Patch Lane had reportedly been knocked over.

As officers investigated the 7:38 p.m. call, a tow truck pulled up. The driver told police a woman had called for the tow and an officer contacted her, according to the report.

She told officers her boyfriend, Richard Fazio, 44, of Mellon Patch Lane called to tell her he had gotten into an accident and asked her for a ride home, police said.

Fazio turned himself in at headquarters and was charged with traveling too fast for conditions and evading responsibility. Bond was set at $25o.

Police said he was arrested because he left the scene without waiting for officers.
