A police officer driving south on Main Street at around 2:26 Saturday morning saw a blue '97 Jaguar with front end damage swerving to maintain its lane while heading in the opposite direction, according to police. After it passed by, the officer noticed there was rear-end damage too, police said.

When the officer pulled the car over, police said it drove off the pavement and onto the grass, traveling several meters before stopping. He approached the driver and noticed both air bags were deployed, according to the report.

Police said the driver, Robert Fiore, 53, of Roosevelt Drive in Oxford, couldn’t give the officer an explanation of why his car was damaged. A bottle of Captain Morgan rum was visible on the back seat, police said.

Field tests determined he was under the influence, leading to his arrest and breath tests at headquarters showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, police said. Fiore was charged with DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Bond was set at $400 for an Oct. 25 court date.

Monroe police checked recent accident reports to determine how Fiore's Jaguar had been damaged with no luck, until a state trooper located a damaged guard rail on the Route 25 Connector with debris consistent with Fiore's car, police said, adding Fiore admitted to being involved in the accident and was charged separately by state police.

Threatening Graffiti

A Cutlers Farm Road woman, who had previously filed a complaint over a message scrawled on her door telling her to quit her job, where she has an ongoing dispute with a co-worker, filed a second complaint on Saturday.

Police said someone used white paint to write "Quit or Die" on the victim's front door. She believes the incidents are related, according to the report.

The incident is under investigation.

Stolen Scrap Metal

A Downs Road woman reported scrap metal stolen from her yard Oct. 12. She told police a contractor putting new siding on her house had kept the scrap metal in an old bath tub, but when she looked out the window, she noticed everything but an aluminum screen door had been taken, according to the police report.

Police also said the door to a shed on the property was open and may have been entered, but that nothing was missing.

The incident is under investigation.

A Good Samaritan

A male employee of the Buck Stop, 456 Main Street, handed a police officer a brown wallet someone had left in the store. The officer used identification in the wallet to return it to the owner, who said nothing was missing from inside it, police said.
